Today I received the most amazing customer service!

I walked into a store and was instantly greeted by a pleasant woman with a welcoming smile. She proceeded to help with my many questions and selections. When I told her that she had provided me with the best customer service since I had been visiting that store over the last six months, she simply said with a smile, “When I go to the other stores, I am a customer too. I want to give my customers the best service possible because I want that for myself.”

Wow! Somebody give the lady a pay hike.

As an employee, when you are at work you represent that brand. You are the business. When customers walk into your workplace, a pleasant greeting and a smile will go a long way in building rapport. Fake it till you get it right; really, it is that important. Employers should ensure that employees who render exceptional customer service are well compensated.

Shopping isn’t just about picking up a product. It encapsulates the entire purchasing experience. The more fulfilling you can make the experience, the happier the customer. And we all know what an asset a happy customer can be to a business!

Tony Hsieh, the founder of Zappos, stated it best. “Our philosophy has been to take most of the money we would have spent on paid advertising and invest it into customer service and customer experience instead, letting our customers do the marketing for us through word of mouth.”

Every customer deserves to feel like the best thing since sliced bread. What if you are the one to make them feel that way!
